L&H Homes is celebrating the handover of a new development
on the outskirts of Heckington, which has been named in honour of a
young local man who gave his life for his country almost 100 years
ago.
Heckington Parish Council has named the 25 property development
Freeston Road in memory of Edward George Freeston, aged just 19
years, who served with the 4th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in
World War One and whose name appears on the village war
memorial.
Richard Higgs, Chairman of Heckington Parish Council, commented:
“These homes are a great addition to the village and we are
delighted to have been consulted in naming the street. There are 42
names on the memorial plaque from World War One and World War Two
and although we may not be able to use them all, we are pleased to
be making a tribute to the village’s fallen heroes.”
The development, situated on the outskirts of the village,
provides much needed affordable housing for local people. The 18
rental units have been allocated to people with a local connection
to the area with the remaining 7 properties allocated for Shared
Ownership through L&H Homes.

Residents of the road will benefit from additional parking,
which was provided at the request of the planner. The site also has
good links to the village centre and the A17, and features
sensitive landscaping which maintains natural hedgerows and
compliments the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Investment through the Homes and Communities Agency, the
national housing and regeneration agency for England, of just over
£1 million has ensured that the properties are of a high
environmental standard – being constructed using timber frame and
each being fitted with solar panels for water heating. The panels
will help to counteract fuel poverty as well as reducing the
overall carbon footprint of the homes.
The development was completed in partnership with the Homes and
Communities Agency, Lindum Construction, Lincs Design Consultancy
Architects, North Kesteven District Council and Heckington Parish
Council. It was constructed on land originally purchased from
Melbourne Holdings, a local property developer.
Cathy Aljohari, Project Manager on behalf of L&H Homes,
said: “Having the development named after a local man is a
lovely finishing touch from the Parish Council. L&H Homes is
extremely proud of the name and we are looking forward to giving
local people a chance to remain close to family and friends in high
quality housing.
“We would also like to extend our thanks to all our partners
in this project, with particular thanks to Lindum Construction for
the high standard of professionalism they have demonstrated
throughout the process.”
Mark Carter, Site Manager for Lindum Construction, added:
“We are thrilled that the Parish Council has used this
development as a tribute to a local hero. We have thoroughly
enjoyed working on this project and hope that residents will enjoy
their new homes.”
