The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of
Peterborough, Councillor Keith Sharp, was recently guest of honour
at Accent Nene's and L&H Homes' joint event to mark the
building completion and official opening of their contemporary
scheme of affordable new homes at Hampton Vale West,
Peterborough. The Mayoress of Peterborough together with
representatives from Peterborough City Council, Persimmon Homes and
other guests joined in the celebrations.
Housing Associations L&H Homes
and Accent Nene have worked in partnership with Persimmon
Homes to provide a choice of 207 affordable new homes on this
former brownfield site, supported by a grant of £9,242,010
from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the national housing
and regeneration agency for England. Timber frame
construction has enabled Persimmon to complete all the homes in
just 16 months - a considerable achievement.
Guests were invited to tour the new homes,
which offer a mix of one bedroom apartments and one, two, three and
four bedroom houses. The homes are in varying designs that
have been carefully chosen to blend in with the surrounding area
and they have been built to a high level of
specification.
They have been provided to meet local needs
after close consultation with Peterborough City Council and the
HCA.
The homes are being offered via a variety of
tenures giving applicants choice through ‘a shopping basket’
approach with the option of renting, part purchasing or renting
with a short term view to buying. This flexible approach in a
changing housing market has enabled customers to select the product
that best suits the needs. As a result homes have already been
reserved with many customers already moved in.
Following the tour of the homes, Cliff Walker,
Chairman of Accent Nene addressed the guests, saying: "This is an
innovative scheme delivered in a difficult economic market where I
am delighted to say we have managed to offer a range of affordable
rent, shared ownership and intermediate market rented homes.
This has been a pioneering project where we have worked alongside
both L&H Homes and Persimmon Homes, sharing resources and
utilising the expertise of our teams. As a result we have
delivered more for less and we will certainly look to do a joint
project of this nature again, working in partnership with other
registered providers."
Mike Hardy, Managing Director of
Longhurst & Havelok Homes, echoed Cliff Walker's sentiments,
and further commented "This has been a great success for
L&H Homes, offering a high quality, innovative product in a
challenging market. We are delighted to have provided so many new
homes to the people of Peterborough. We would like to particularly
thank Peterborough City Council and Persimmon Homes for their close
partnership working and our relationship with Accent Nene in
sharing experiences and delivery of our objectives to the benefit
of all.”
Terry Fuller, Director for the HCA for the
East of England said: We are delighted to be able to support
these much-needed family homes for the area. It is important
that local needs are met, and this development is a great example
of delivering a variety of housing to meet local needs.”
Features of the new homes include minimal
maintenance air source heat pumps, connected to conventional
radiators and water cylinders within each home to provide
economical energy-efficient heating. Inside the homes carpets
or flooring, high quality fitted kitchens and white sanitaryware
are provided. Some of the larger homes even benefit from
additional en-suite facilities – a real benefit for families.
