The first credit union in Louth officially launched this week.

To celebrate the occasion, guests were invited to a drinks reception and a chance to meet the volunteers at the Holy Trinity Centre in Louth. The guest of honour, The Mayor of Louth, Councillor Brian Burnett joined representatives from L&H Homes, New Linx Housing Trust, East Lindsey CAB, East Lindsey District Council and Linda Burden, Business Development Manager to declare it open.

The new service is set up by Lincolnshire Credit Union (LincUp) in partnership with the Team Parish of Louth and supported by various local organisations including the Housing Associations Longhurst & Havelok Homes (L&H Homes) and New Linx Housing Trust.

LincUp offers safe savings and low cost loans to its member and acceptance criteria is based on the ability to repay the loan rather than past credit history.

As an incentive L&H Homes are also offering their new residents living in Lincolnshire £10 credit when opening a new savings account and New Linx Housing Trust are paying the joining fee.

The collection point is based at Holy Trinity Centre, Eastgate, Louth every Wedneday between 11.00am – 1.00pm.

Paula Caunt, Income Manager at L&H Homes commented “L&H Homes are very proud to support of the Lincolnshire Credit Union and the launch of their services in Louth is an excellent addition for the local community. We would like to encourage all our residents and people living or working in the local area to become members. They will provide friendly advice on low cost loan options. Plus if people haven’t got a savings account, it’s a local and convenient place to start making small regular savings.”

Linda Burden, LincUp Business Development Manager, commented “The Louth Credit Union has already received a positive response from the public and the number of people becoming members has been fantastic. We couldn’t thank the Team Parish of Louth enough for volunteering their services and our Housing Association partners for supporting the project enough.”

For more information on how to become a member of LincUp please contact the main office in Lincoln on 01522 528886 or the Trinity Centre on 01507 605803.
