A young Grimsby footballer, Danny Hornigold
amazed scouts recently, securing one of 28 places at the final of
representing England in the 2010 Homeless World Cup on Copacabana
Beach in Rio de Janeiro this September.
Danny originally tackled over 1200 people
across the country to secure the place but unfortunaly was knocked
out at the final hurdle.
Danny was nominated and is currently being
trained by the Stepping Stones Team at Longhurst & Havelok
Homes (L&H) - a special housing service which provides a high
level of support for people who are homeless, Grimsby YMCA and
Grimsby Substance Misuse Centre.
Brian Noble, L&H Homes, Housing Support
Officer commented “Danny was disappointed he was unable to
represent England in the Homeless World Cup but felt it was an
amazing experience. By getting into the final it has improved
his confidence immensely. The scouts said he has great potential
and a promising future in football ahead of him.”
The Homeless World Cup is an annual,
international football tournament, uniting teams of people who are
homeless and excluded to take a once in a lifetime opportunity to
represent their country and change their lives forever. It supports
grass roots football projects in over 70 nations working with over
30,000 homeless and excluded people.
