Robin Barr
Robin
is the Director of Care & Support for Longhurst & Havelok
Homes. Following University, Robin began his career in Social
Care in 1980 as a Houseparent in a Residential Care Home for
Children with Learning Disabilities.
Robin completed his Professional Social Work
Qualification in 1984 and following a series of promotions was
appointed as a Residential Child Care Manager in 1985.
Passionate about improving social care
practise, it was a natural progression for Robin to move into
Training & Development and he worked as a Manager in Training
& Practise Development before leaving the Local Authority in
1995 to work as an Independent Training Consultant.
Having worked closely with Havelok Homes as a
Training Consultant, Robin was offered the opportunity to join the
organisation as Supported Housing Manager in 1999. Robin was
appointed Director of Care & Support in 2003, a role that he
has continued in following the amalgamation of Longhurst &
Havelok Homes in 2009. His work sees him lead a large staff group
delivering a wide range of Care & Support Services, including
Residential Care Homes, Domiciliary Care Services and a range of
Specialist Supported Housing Projects.
Robin has been Chair of the Grimsby and
Cleethorpes Citizens Advice Bureau for the last 6 years and over
that period has seen demand for its services grow
significantly.
Robin has also been a School Governor for over
14 years and has served as a Parish Councillor.
Away from work, Robin enjoys participating in
and watching sport – in particular golf, cricket and
football. He also enjoys reading, travel and the theatre.
